Rio Rancho sits just northwest of Albuquerque in Sandoval County and is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in New Mexico. It has an unusual origin story: it began in the 1960s as a huge ranch that a developer subdivided and marketed to buyers from across the country, and it did not incorporate as a city until 1981.
Today it is a full city in its own right, with its own schools, shopping, medical centers and Intel’s Rio Rancho campus. Much of the housing is newer, and buyers often find more square footage and bigger lots than the same money buys in Albuquerque.
